The Asvadurovs, an Armenian family of Akkerman

The Asvadurovs (Asvatsaturiants) were a well-known Armenian family of Akkerman who owned property and vineyards in the town. Their ancestors moved to Cetatea Albă from Constantinople on the eve of its fall in 1453. The surname comes from the name Asvatsatur, “given by God”; through Russification it became Asvadurov.

The founder of the family, Isahak Asvadurov, was engaged in wine-making and trade and was a trustee of the Armenian Church of the Dormition and of the Armenian school. His sons Sirakan (1840–1925) and Fyodor (Khudaverdi) founded the trading house “Sons of I. Asvadurov” in 1886.

The photograph shows three men and three women. According to the Russian inscription on it, it shows Levon, Ivan and Martin Asvadurov, sons of Sirakan, Akkerman, 1910.
