Wedding of eight Armenian orphan couples in Tina
The photograph shows an Armenian group wedding ceremony organised by the Danish humanitarian Karen Jeppe in the village of Tina in Syria, a newly built settlement. Eight couples of Armenian orphans were married at the same time. The ceremony was performed by the priest Mkrtich Muradian with two other clergymen taking part.
The brides wear white veils, and the grooms white headcloths. The three clergymen stand in the centre; behind them are houses with dome-shaped roofs. Second from the left is Jeppe’s assistant Jenny Jensen. The photograph was taken in the late 1920s.
