Noravank Monastery Complex

Noravank is an Armenian monastic complex built in the 13th–14th centuries. It stands 122 km from Yerevan, near the village of Areni, on a ledge of a narrow, winding gorge of a tributary of the Arpa River.

The photograph shows the façade of one of the complex's churches, with a lower and an upper entrance. Above both doors are carvings with human figures. Stone steps projecting from the wall lead up to the upper entrance.
