Sanahin Monastery

Sanahin is a monument of Armenian architecture, a medieval monastery and one of the main medieval cultural centres of Northern Armenia. The church complex dates from the 10th–13th centuries. Sanahin had a scriptorium where books were copied, a library and an academy (chemaran). The monastery stands in the village of Sanahin, now within the town of Alaverdi (Lori Province, Armenia). Together with Haghpat Monastery, Sanahin is inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

The photograph shows a stone church with a conical dome and adjoining buildings, with grass growing on their roofs.
