Panorama of Yerevan, an old engraving
A panorama of Yerevan in an engraving of the late 1600s – early 1700s. According to the source, such views of Yerevan were made by Johann Homann (1663–1724) and Joseph Tournefort (1656–1708), and both bear the inscription “Erivan, the main city of Armenia”.
The city is shown from a height, among mountains. At the top, a German inscription reads “Erivan, the main city of Armenia”; below, letters mark the fortress, the Sultan’s mosque, the great square, the bishop’s church, two rivers and Mount Ararat. An archive stamp is in the upper right corner.
