Village girl with a jug, Yerevan
The photograph shows an Armenian village girl in Yerevan in the 1880s. She holds a clay jug on her shoulder. A white headscarf covers her head and the lower part of her face, and she wears a long light-coloured dress. A child stands on the left, and behind them is a stone house.
Her posture and the moment of work convey the simplicity of village life and the hard daily labour of women. The photograph was taken by Dmitri Ivanovich Yermakov and preserves an accurate picture of everyday life of the time.
