Monument to Alexander Tamanyan at the foot of the Cascade
The monument to the architect Alexander Tamanyan stands in Yerevan, at the foot of the Cascade architectural complex. It was erected in 1974; its authors are the sculptor Artashes Hovsepyan and the architect Seda Petrosyan. The monument is made of basalt and granite. The sculpture shows the architect bending over his creation, the general plan of Yerevan.
Alexander Tamanyan (1878–1936) was the chief architect of Yerevan’s 1924 general plan, which shaped the city’s present appearance.
The photograph was taken during a snowfall: the sculpture is covered with snow, and behind it rise the stairs and terraces of the Cascade, with people walking on them.
