Armenian silver belts, 19th century
The photograph presents 10 silver belts made in Armenia, examples of 19th-century Armenian decorative art. The belts consist of linked oval and rectangular plaques and have ornate buckles. Some have a golden tone, and one buckle has red decorations.
Each belt has its own composition, with plant and geometric ornaments that reflect the hand of its maker. Such belts were an important part of national dress, symbolising dignity, social standing and family heritage.
