Church of the Holy Cross on Aghtamar
The Church of the Holy Cross on Aghtamar Island is an early medieval Armenian monastery, built in 915–921.
The photograph shows one of the church’s façades with rich carvings. The wall bears saints and angels with haloes, crosses and a grapevine ornament, and higher up runs a carved band with figures of animals and people.
