The Church of Surb Sargis at Khtskonk Monastery
The photograph shows the Church of Surb Sargis at Khtskonk Monastery. According to the source, this medieval monastic complex was built around the 9th century and consisted of 5 churches: Surb Astvatsatsin, Surb Hovhannes Karapet, Surb Stepanos, Surb Grigor Lusavorich and Surb Sargis.
The monastery lies about 25 kilometres from Ani, between the villages of Agarak and Digor, today in the territory of Turkey. Of the complex, only the Church of Surb Sargis has survived, half-ruined; the others were completely destroyed over time.
The church stands on the edge of a rocky gorge. It has rounded walls, a tall drum and a conical roof; arched niches and broken sections can be seen in the walls. Several people are walking nearby.
