A street in Yerevan in the early 20th century
A street in Yerevan in the early 20th century. Today this is Mesrop Mashtots Avenue, one of Yerevan’s main and largest central avenues. It runs through the city centre from the Matenadaran, the Institute of Ancient Manuscripts, in the north to the Victory Bridge in the south.
The photograph shows a wide unpaved street with low walls, leafless trees and flat-roofed houses. Three people are walking along it: one in a turban and a long cloak, another a woman in a hat and a long dark dress. Wooden poles stand along the edge of the street.
