Vahanavank Monastery
Vahanavank, literally ‘Vahan’s monastery’. It was built in 911 by Vahan, the younger son of Prince Dzagik.
Inscriptions preserved on numerous khachkars and gravestones confirm that Vahanavank was the burial place of the royal and princely families of Syunik and Aghvank. The monastery also had a school, where Catholicos Vahan I Syunetsi once studied.
The photograph shows the church with a pointed dome, tiled roofs and an arcaded gallery. Around it are mountains and autumn trees; horses graze in the foreground.
