The Gavazan pillar at Tatev Monastery

The Gavazan is a swinging pillar crowned with a khachkar (stone cross), standing in the grounds of Tatev Monastery, Armenia.

The tall pillar is built of dressed stone blocks, has two ring-shaped bands and rests on a stepped stone pedestal. At the top is a small khachkar with a carved cross. Around it are the stone walls of the monastery, and several carved stones stand on and near the pedestal.
