Marble personification of Armenia from Ancient Rome
This marble relief is a symbol of Armenia. It once decorated the Temple of Hadrian in Rome, built by Antoninus Pius in 145 AD. All the provinces of the Roman Empire were represented in the temple, and Armenia held one of the places of honour.
The relief shows a standing woman in a knee-length garment with a cloak thrown over her shoulder; on her head is a soft cap which, according to the source, is a traditional Armenian cap.
Today the sculpture is kept in the National Archaeological Museum in Naples, Italy.
