Urartian silver pectoral

The image shows a silver pectoral which, according to the source, was made in the period of the Armenian kingdom of Urartu. Today it is kept in the Miho Museum in Japan.

The pectoral is crescent-shaped, with loops for hanging at its upper ends. Its surface is decorated in relief with stylised trees flanked by winged animals, as well as winged figures holding bows, winged human-like figures and round flower-shaped ornaments. The source describes these as winged beings, trees of life and divine signs typical of Urartian art.

According to the source, the pectoral testifies to the high level of metalwork, royal taste and the development of state symbols.
