Armenia’s independence document in the USA, 1920

According to the source, this photograph is kept in the archive of the US Congress and is connected with an important event in Armenia’s history. In 1920 representatives of the Republic of Armenia presented the document of Armenia’s independence to the United States of America. At that time Armenia was seeking international recognition and diplomatic support.

In the picture, in an ornate hall, an elderly man in a suit and a man in uniform are passing a document to each other across a table. Many men in military uniform stand around them, and portraits hang on the walls. An outline of a map in white lines was later added over the photograph.
