Medical unit of Armenian volunteers

The photograph shows the medical unit of Armenian volunteers during the First World War. There are about 20 people in three rows. The men wear fur hats and military uniforms, the women white headscarves and aprons. Many wear armbands with a cross.

The image is a colour reproduction from a book, with a caption below in three languages: “Medical group of Armenian volunteers”.

This image bears witness to the organisation and humanity of the Armenian people and to their will to save lives in wartime.
