Armenian Children in a Refugee Camp in Aleppo
The photograph shows Armenian schoolchildren in a refugee camp in Aleppo. It was taken after the Armenian Genocide, when thousands of Armenians found refuge in Syria. Many children had lost their families and lived in camps. Despite the hardships, schools and lessons were organised for them.
The children sit on two levels: below, and on wooden platforms built along the wall. Many of them hold books.
This photograph recalls the generation that survived the Genocide and went on living.
