Four-Sided Armenian Stele, 4th–5th Centuries

This four-sided stele was created in the 4th–5th centuries. It is made of tuff and was found near Vank Kharaba. Christian images and ornaments are carved on its four sides. Today the stele is kept in Yerevan, at the History Museum of Armenia.

The photograph shows it from two sides. Standing human figures are carved on its faces, one of them with a halo around the head. The upper and lower parts bear repeating ornaments.

Such monuments are important examples of early Christian Armenian art. This stele is regarded as one of the valuable specimens of early medieval Armenian art.
