Tchaikovsky at the Adelkhanov dacha, Tiflis
The photograph shows the composer Pyotr Tchaikovsky among family members and friends at the Adelkhanov dacha in the Ortachala district of Tiflis, in the spring of 1889. Tchaikovsky visited Tiflis several times, in particular because his brother Anatoly served there as a prosecutor. The hosts, the Adelkhanovs, were wealthy Armenians.
Among the guests are the composer’s brother Anatoly Tchaikovsky and his wife Praskovya Tchaikovskaya. This is one of the few photographs showing Tchaikovsky in an informal setting, at leisure.
Men and women are seated around a long table with a white tablecloth in a garden; behind them is a house with a staircase with a wrought railing.
