The house where Komitas was born, Kutina
In this house Komitas (real name Soghomon Gevorgi Soghomonyan) was born on 26 September (8 October) 1869. He was an Armenian composer, musicologist, folklorist, singer, choir conductor and clergyman of the Armenian Church. The house stands in the town of Kutina (Kütahya), now in Turkey.
The photograph shows an old house with wooden-framed windows and a projecting upper floor. Above the entrance door is a semicircular glazed window, and a woman in a headscarf stands in the doorway. The Armenian caption on the picture reads: “Komitas was born in this house.”
