Bronze statuette of the god Teisheba
This bronze statuette depicts Teisheba, the Urartian god of thunder and war, and dates from the 8th–7th centuries BC. Teisheba was the second most important god of Urartu, after the supreme god Khaldi.
The god stands on a base decorated with leaves. He wears a long robe with Urartian ornament and a belt, and on his head a tall horned headdress. In his hands he holds a disc-shaped mace and a battle axe, symbols of his power over thunder and the elements of the sky.
The statuette was found in 1941 during excavations at Karmir Blur, in the ruins of the fortress of Teishebaini, and is now kept in the History Museum of Armenia in Yerevan.
