The door of Saint Stepanos Church (Lmbatavank)
The Church of Saint Stepanos (Lmbatavank) is a small cross-domed church in the Shirak Province of Armenia, near the town of Artik. It dates to the 7th century and is considered one of the best-preserved examples of Armenian architecture of that period. It is built of volcanic tuff, with a cruciform plan and a central dome.
The church is known for its surviving frescoes depicting the Theophany, saints, and the horsemen Saint Sargis and Saint Gevorg. They are valuable examples of early medieval Armenian wall painting.
The photograph shows the church’s carved wooden door, decorated with a large cross and other ornaments. The door is set in a wooden frame with geometric carving; above it are the stone lintel and arch, with letters cut into them.
