Khachkar of Saghmosavank
A khachkar of Saghmosavank.
Saghmosavank is a monastery of the Armenian Apostolic Church on the eastern edge of the village of Saghmosavan in Armenia’s Aragatsotn Province. According to the source, the monastery was founded in 1215–1235, and its main buildings were erected by Prince Vache Vachutian. It consists of four main adjoining structures: churches, including Surb Sion, a library and a large gavit (narthex).
The khachkar is set in an arched niche. The cross and the entire surface are covered with fine lace-like carving, with a round ornament below the cross.
