Inventor Luther George Simjian
The world's first ATM was invented in 1939 by the Armenian-American inventor Luther George Simjian, a man who had no technical education, nor any higher education at all.
Simjian is one of the record holders in the United States for the number of patented inventions, and the most versatile of them: his inventions cover about 30 fields of technology.
The photograph shows a man in a pinstriped suit, tie and pocket handkerchief. Behind him is water, with buildings on the far shore.
