The first printed Armenian Bible, Amsterdam, 1666
The first Bible in Armenian was printed in Amsterdam, at the printing house of the Armenian Apostolic Church, in 1666. It was published through the efforts of Voskan Yerevantsi, an archimandrite of the Etchmiadzin monastery, who had moved to Amsterdam to join his brother Avetis, co-owner of an Armenian printing house.
The photograph shows the open book in a display case. On the left page are 4 engravings of the Evangelists with captions in Latin and Armenian; on the right page, within an ornamental frame, is an image of a tree with human figures, and below it Armenian text.
