Mount Khustup
Khustup is the highest peak of the Katar mountains. It is located in Syunik Province, 9 km south-west of the town of Kapan. The right tributaries of the Voghji River, the Geghanush and the Vachagan, rise on its south-eastern slopes, and the Shishkert, a left tributary of the Tsav River, rises on its south-western slopes.
The mountain is covered with alpine meadows, and its north-eastern part with forests. It is made of volcanic and sedimentary rocks (porphyrite, marl, limestone). Its slopes are broken, with cliffs and caves. Melting snow feeds hundreds of springs and streams, from which the Vachagan River begins.
