Soghomon Tehlirian with his wife Anahit
Soghomon Tehlirian was born on 2 April 1897 in the village of Nerkin Bagarij in the province of Karin (Erzurum). At the start of the First World War he joined the Armenian resistance forces, but his life took a turn when his whole family was killed during the Genocide.
On 15 March in Berlin, in front of many witnesses, Tehlirian shot Talaat Pasha, the former vizier and interior minister of the Ottoman Empire, who was hiding in Germany. A German court acquitted him. Afterwards he settled in Serbia and then moved to the USA, married and had a son and a daughter. He died in 1960 in Fresno, surrounded by respect.
The picture shows Soghomon with his wife Anahit. There is a handwritten inscription at the bottom.
