Armenian family from Adapazar
The photograph shows an Armenian family from the town of Adapazar. There are two women and three children. The women are seated, each holding an infant on her lap, and between them stands a little girl with beads and a cross around her neck. The women wear dark blouses with puffed sleeves and striped skirts; the children wear dresses with lace collars.
Their faces show the seriousness of the time. The photograph bears witness to family, continuity and endurance in a period when peaceful life was constantly under threat.
