The Face of Christ by Ariel Agemian
The Face of Christ, a 1935 work by Ariel Agemian. According to the source, specialists consider his reproduction of the face of Christ from the Shroud of Turin to be the most accurate.
Agemian, a Knight of Saint Gregory, belonged to academic realism; he painted portraits, landscapes, murals and canvases on themes from Armenian history. At the age of 5 he witnessed the massacre of Armenians and the death of his father; he was then separated from his mother and brother and taken into the Mekhitarist Order in Rome, where he studied until the age of 18. In Europe he received two gold medals from art associations in Venice and Paris, the titles of Maestro d’Arte and professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice, and a doctorate in philosophy from the University of Padua.
The painting shows the face of a man with long hair and a beard, seen from the front.
