Karin (Erzurum) today

The Armenian name of Erzurum is Karin. Karin was part of the domain of the Armenian Arshakuni (Arsacid) dynasty, and after the partition of the country around 387 it was the seat of the last ruler of the western part of Armenia.

This modern photograph shows one of the city’s squares, with a star-shaped fountain, paved walkways and lawns. Behind are the stone walls of the fortress, a tall brick tower and buildings under restoration surrounded by scaffolding.
