An Armenian family from Agulis, 1867
The photograph shows an Armenian family originating from Agulis, photographed in 1867 in the Nakhichevan district.
Three members of the family are in the picture, in traditional national dress. An elderly man in a tall fur hat and a woman in a headdress and rich costume are seated, while a girl in a dark coat and a long white skirt stands beside them. A carpet is spread under their feet.
Below the picture “1867” is written by hand, along with several handwritten lines in Armenian. The photograph bears witness to the Armenian life that had taken shape over centuries in the territory of Nakhichevan.
