Flag of the Kingdom of Cilicia, 1334

The flag of the Kingdom of Cilicia, 1334. The image is a modern drawing in the shape of a shield: on the white left half there is a large red cross and four small crosses, on the grey right half fleurs-de-lis.

The Armenian Kingdom of Cilicia was a medieval state on the north-eastern coast of the Mediterranean (1080–1375). It was founded by Armenians fleeing the Seljuk invasion, led by Ruben I, and became a kingdom under Levon. The capital was first Tarsus, later Sis (Kozan). It was ruled in turn by the Rubenids, the Hetumids and the Lusignans.

In 1375 the Mamluks of Egypt captured Sis and the kingdom fell, although resistance in the mountain areas continued until 1424.
