Saint Gregory the Illuminator Church in Buenos Aires

The Armenian Church of Saint Gregory the Illuminator in the Palermo district of Buenos Aires has been included in the official tourist guide of the Argentine capital, in recognition of the Armenian community’s significant contribution to city life. This was done within the city government’s programme “Knowing Buenos Aires”, which introduces visitors to the city’s districts, monuments and cultural heritage.

The cathedral building combines traditional Armenian elements with modern architecture. In 301, through the efforts of Saint Gregory the Illuminator, Armenia became the first country to adopt Christianity as its state religion.

The night photograph shows the illuminated church with round windows on its façade, an arcaded entrance, a bell tower and a conical dome on a many-sided drum.
