Miles Davis and George Avakian

The photograph shows the legendary jazz performer Miles Davis beside the well-known American music producer George Avakian.

Avakian released the world’s first long-playing records (LPs). He made the first live concert recording issued on record: Benny Goodman’s concert at Carnegie Hall. He produced Louis Armstrong, Miles Davis, Benny Goodman and many others. Avakian said: “In our family we spoke only Armenian.”

There are three men in the photograph. One is seated, beside him stands a bald man, and in the background is a third man wearing dark glasses.
