Middle Bronze Age grave in Berd
In Berd, on Movses Khorenatsi Street, a Middle Bronze Age grave about 4,000 years old was discovered during road works. The builders found the first three clay vessels and immediately informed archaeologists; work was stopped and excavations began. Professor Ashot Piliposyan confirmed that this is an earth burial from the beginning of the 2nd millennium BC, typical of that time. There are no human bones, since cremation was widely practised then.
More than 5 large vessels (60–70 cm) have already been found, some with patterns and symbols, as well as bones of animals used in sacrifices. Such vessels are found throughout the Armenian Highlands, which points to a common ancient cultural environment in the region. The finds will soon be displayed at the Berd Museum of History and Everyday Life.
The image is a collage of several photographs: red clay vessels buried in the earth, one with dark patterns, and men digging in the street.
