Parade in Yerevan with the flags of the Allies, 1919
On 30 April 1919 a solemn military parade was held in Yerevan to mark the liberation of Kars and Nakhijevan (Nakhchivan) from the Turkish-Tatar invaders, and the Allies' recognition of these two Armenian territories as an inseparable part of the free, independent and sovereign Republic of Armenia.
The parade was attended by George Milne, commander of the British Black Sea garrison, and Arshavir Shahkhatuni, followed by horsemen of the Armenian cavalry carrying the flags of the United States, France and Great Britain. The column is descending Abovyan Street to the central square of the capital (now Republic Square). On the right is the building of the former boys' gymnasium, now the Arno Babajanyan Concert Hall.
The photograph shows the horsemen with flags, including the American flag, and people standing along the street.
