Gold pyx, Caesarea, 1687
A gold pyx, 1687, Caesarea, the work of Armenian craftsmen. It is decorated with the Last Supper and the apostles. It is kept in Lisbon, at the Calouste Gulbenkian Museum. Photo: archive of the Gulbenkian Foundation.
On the central face of the many-sided box, under an arch with a curtain, figures are seated around a table, with a haloed figure in the middle; the side faces show pairs of standing apostles. Below is an inscription in Armenian letters, and a red stone is set into the lid.
