Construction of the Metsamor nuclear power plant

The photograph shows a construction phase of the Metsamor nuclear power plant, one of the most important industrial projects of Soviet Armenia. It was taken in the years when the plant was taking shape as the foundation of the republic's energy security.

In the foreground are 4 builders in metal helmets and work clothes, some wearing safety belts and chains. Behind them rises a tower-like structure with a lattice metal frame.

The photograph is a reminder of the combined power of technical progress and human labour.
