Traditional Armenian women’s headdresses

Traditional Armenian headdresses, part of the national costume. They stand out for the variety of their shapes, materials and decoration, including embroidery, beads, coins and metal ornaments. Women’s headdresses are often decorated with coins, for example the “arakhchi” or other festive and ceremonial headdresses. They are not only items of clothing but also reflect regional features and the status of their owner.

The photograph shows six headdresses displayed on three steps in a museum showcase. The top two are covered with beads and red ornaments, the middle ones with rows of coins, and the bottom two are metal forehead ornaments with pendants.
